Bandera Day 3

Got up at 9 AM and joined the rest of the group at the OST restaurant (Great Breakfast again!). After my short stack of pancake, We all met in front of the court house and headed back home.

Paul lead us back to Houston pretty much the same same way we came to Bandera. When we arrived in Bellville we had lunch at the Subway. We split up in different directs to get home. A few of us stopped at Pete’s on FM 529 to wrap up the weekend.

What a great weekend!

Bandera Day 2

Got up way too early 7 AM with a head ache and could not go back to sleep. Around 8 AM we were chatting near the fire and Dude (Tom Weishaupt) showed up (I sent him a email and he came down to join us). It was a nice surprise to see him. We had breakfast at the OST restaurant (Great Breakfast!). Afterwards we split in to two groups. Krusty and Paul lead and I went with Paul's Group (Big Bird, Mark, and Dude).

WOW! What a great day and a great ride! I Love it out here in the Texas Hill Country. Paul took us on some great roads. We started out of Bandera on Hwy 16 to Medina. Turned on Ranch Road 337. Tee in to Ranch Road 187 turned right and turned left to continue on Ranch Road 337. Took a break at the frio Motorcycle stop at Hwy 83 and Ranch Road 337. Big Bird (Steve Kouse) left the group to San Antonio to get his tire replace.

We headed North on Hwy 83 and split left at the Ranch Road 336 (I really like Ranch Road 336!). We turned left (East) on Hwy 41 and Hit Ranch Road 337 to Rocksprings and headed South to Camp Wood Texas.

We had lunch at B.J.’s Cafe & Sweet Shop in Camp Wood. After lunch we headed back north on Ranch Road 335 right on Hwy 41 and then right on 1340 to Kerrville and rode to Bandera on Hwy 173.

We got back to Bandera around 4 PM. We stop at Frosty’s motorcycle Stop (Everyone should stop at Frosty’s) and visited a wile and headed back to the hotel for a little break.

After taking a break, We had dinner at Herrars mexican restaurant (Pretty good). We filled our bellies and then headed over to Bandera Saloon. I had a couple of drinks (I promise myself not to drink as much as last night). After a couple drinks and some socializing, I headed back to the hotel were we did the bond fire thing again till midnight.

Bandera Day 1

Got to Bellville Texas right at 10 AM. Filled up and pulled out as the other group left (A total of 7 riders, counting me). Seem like I time it perfect. We were on our way headed West to Bandera Texas. What a perfect day for riding! The weather was at a high of the upper sixty with a nice blue sky. Krusy lead the ride and set the route (Great Job). The best riding road we hit was Crypress Creek off of Highway I-10 on the other side of Comfort. Rolling hills and curvy road with a beautiful scenery. The whole ride was great.

When we arrived in Bandera we checked in to the Lost Valley Ranch Hotel. The first time I stayed here last year I wasn't thrilled with this place, but it does grow on you and the management seem to put up with us partying in the late evenings.

After dinner at the OST restaurant and gathering beer, ice and other essential, we had a party next to a make shift bond fire in BBQ pit. It was great, a few new road name were appointed (Crack fairy and Short Shaft) and some great story and some not so great were told, with a few joke here and there. With a little to much Crown and diet coke (No Carbs) I hit the sack around midnight.

Hot Springs Last Words

This was a great ride! I only wish I had a few more days to ride around Hot Springs Arkansas and or even head further North  on Hwy 7 and back around to Oklahoma, then back down towards Texas.

Would I go back to Hot Springs Arkansas? Yep, anytime!

Hot Springs Trip Day 5

Started My morning at 10:00 AM had breakfast Ihop and said my good byes and head to Houston Texas around noon. I rode South on Hwy 169 to Logansport Louisiana. I cross over to Texas on Hwy 84, found FM 139 and rode south along the Sabine river. FM 139 and FM 3172 are a great ride! You should not continue pass Huxley Texas, the road becomes very ruff and partially paved. Next time I will stay on FM 139 or cut back to FM 139 by FM 2694 in Huxley Texas. I found Hwy 87, turned right on FM 353 (Nice road) to San Augustine Texas. I continued on down Hwy 147 and stop for gas and lunch (Sue’s Diner - Good burger) in Zavalla Texas. After lunch I head down Hwy 69 to Woodville Texas. Turn at Hwy 190 and kept going all the way to Hwy 59. At this point it was getting colder (I stop to put my Liner in my jacket) and I wanted to get home to a hot shower. I continued on Hwy 59 and arrived home around 6:30 PM

Hot Springs Trip Day 3

Started My morning at 8:00 AM, Breakfast at the Hotel.

I headed towards the west part of town and checked out the Mid-America Science Museum (it was pretty good, but not a must see). After learning some science I hop on Hwy 270 and headed west, Near Crystal Springs I found Brady Mountain road which led to Brady Mountain resort. Very nice riding road in this area. Also I stop for lunch at Brady Mountain resort Restaurant (great food and a great view from the patio).

I found my way back in to Hot Springs and then headed north on Hwy 7 up to Hot Spring Village and loop back around on Hwy 227. Then on to Black Snake Rd (This road goes over West Mountain and back to Hot Springs, Nice!). I wonder around downtown Hot Spring on foot and checked out some of the Bath houses and the shops.

Hot Springs Trip Day 2

Started my day at 9:00 AM, breakfast at the hotel and headed out around 10:00 AM. Got out of Shreveport Louisiana rode up Hwy 3 to Benton Louisiana turned on Hwy 162 and many of great riding roads through Cotton Valley Louisiana, Haynesville Louisiana, and to El Dorado Arkansas. We got lunch and gas at El Dorado Arkansas and ate at Sonic (Not many choice).

I heard and read a lot of good thing about the scene byway Hwy 7, but when I got on Hwy 7 from El Dorado Arkansas, I was disappointed. It was a 4 lane hwy and did not seem very special until I got to Camden Arkansas. From then on the road and the view was great. If I have known that ahead of time I would hop on Hwy 7 after Camden Arkansas. We arrived in Hot Springs Arkansas around 5:00 PM and checked in the Embassy Suite Hotel (Great hotel with free cook to order breakfasts).

After checking in at the hotel we rode downtown and went up to the Mountain Tower. The tower is 21 stories on top Hot Springs Mountain. Great view with a great sunset.

Got back to the hotel around 8:00 PM got cleaned up and had dinner at the hotel and called it a night.

Star Riders - Ripley

On Saturday March 5, 2006 I hit the alarm at 7:30 AM got suited up and rode out to Sugar Land and met some riders there and we headed out to Bellville, Texas to meet up with the rest of the Star Riders for the Star Riders Chapter ride led by Ripley.

Kick Stands were up at 9:30 AM and we left Newman’s Bakery headed towards Fayettville. FM 2429, FM 949, Cat Spring, and Zimmersheild are some the roads we took to Fayettville.

After a short break we headed towards St. Mary Church. The route to St. Mary was just as fun as it was to Fayettville. We wonder around the gravey yard at St. Mary Church looking for the oldest grave stone. I think 1877 was the oldest one.

On the road again headed for lunch in Columbus at Schobel’s Restaurant. When we arrived at Schobel’s With Ripley’s great planning, they were ready for us.

After stuffing our faces we headed out towards Trails End at US 290 and FM 362. It started to rain lightly on us and when we arrived in Pattison. We all decided  to head towards Houston and stop at Pete’s on FM 529 instead of going to Trails End. We ended our ride at Pete’s with a few drinks.

Ripley led a spirited run. This ride was well planned and I had a great time. We only had a couple mishaps with Donna having some bike problems and Krusty & Donna dropping there bikes.

Thanks for a great ride Ripley!
