Big Bend Day 3

Had a good breakfast at Penny's Dinner.

After Breakfast we headed South on Highway 118 back to Big Bend National Park, we stopped in Study Butte for fuel and Water. The Study Butte Store look the same as it did when I stopped here five years ago.

We continued South on highway 118 into Big Bend National Park on Highway 385 (West), after six mile we turned on Ross Maxwell Scenic Road (Do not Miss this road!) and rode 30 miles through the Castolon area to the Santa Elena Canyon. We rode through a couple low areas on the road that were covered with three to four inches of water, that we had to slowly cross.

The Santa Elena Canyon is a must see when visiting the Big Bend National Park.

When we left Santa Elena Canyon I saw Old Maverick Road which reminded me when I was here five years ago. Don't take that road unless you have dirt bike or a four wheel drive auto.

After leaving Big Bend National Park we rode up highway 118 to Study Butte and turned on highway 170. We stopped for lunch in Terlingua, TX at the High Sierra Bar & Grill. I recommend it highly, we had some great food there.
After a great lunch we headed West on highway 170 through the Big Bend Ranch State Park along the Rio Grande River. This road is a must ride when you are in the Big Bend area.

When we reached Redford, TX, we decided to take cover from the storm coming our way.

After the storm pass we continued West on highway 170, two mile before Presidio, TX we had to stop. A creek was flowing over the road from a flash flood. We were stuck there for about an hour with a few other vehicles on both sides of the creek.

When we reached Presidio, TX we headed north on highway 67 to Marfa, TX. We stopped for fuel and had dinner at Mando's. Very good mexican food!

After we filled our bellies we headed East on highway 90, we stopped to see the Marfa Lights.

We got back to the hotel around 9:30 PM. We spent a little time with the San Antonio Southern Cruiser. We called it a night at 10:30 PM.

It was an awesome day!
